Breaking the world record for the largest charity walk will just be a bonus and not the priority of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
This, according to INC spokesman Edwil Zabala, who said that the primary reason for the Worldwide Walk is to acquire additional resources for the short-term and long-term rehabilitation of those affected by super typhoon Yolanda. Zabala added that the event also aims to call attention to the fact that the four million typhoon survivors have not yet fully recovered from their ordeal.
Zabala stressed that the funds accumulated will be used in the continuing distribution of relief packages and the conducting of medical and dental missions.
At the same time, Zabala also apologized to motorists who have been affected by the traffic congestion due to the event.
He said that the INC has done everything possible, including the prompt coordination with the appropriate agencies and local government units, to ensure that the traffic rerouting schemes are put in place and announced early on.
