Typhoon Lawin further weakens, storm signals lowered in Luzon

(Eagle News) – Typhoon Lawin continues to weaken as it moved away from the country.

Public storm warning signals were further lowered in the country, and the previous storm signal number 3 had been removed by PAGASA, the country’s weather bureau, as the typhoon’s winds further weakened.

Public storm warning signal number 2 is now up in Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Sur and Calayan Group of Islands.  A few hours ago, these areas were under storm signal number 3.

Meanwhile, the Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Kalinga, Isabela, Quirino, Northern Aurora, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan and Northern Zambales are placed under storm signal number 1.

Storm signals in Metro Manila, the rest of Zambales, Bulacan, Bataan and Pampanga were likewise removed as a generally good weather persisted in the area.

Typhoon Lawin’s wind strength has weakened at 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 700 kilometer diameter of the typhoon.

As of 11 a.m. the eye of typhoon Lawin is estimated at 135 kilometers west northwest of Laoag, Ilocos Norte.  The typhoon is forecast to move west northwest at 21 kph.

By tonight, forecasters said typhoon Lawin would be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and the country would experience good weather as no low pressure area is in sight after Lawin.
