(Eagle News) — Thirteen senators signed on Wednesday night the committee report of the panel on electoral reforms and people’s participation that seeks to ban political dynasties.
Those who signed Committee Report No. 367 or Senate Bill 1765 were Senate Minority Leader Frank Drilon, Senators Panfilo Lacson, Risa Hontiveros, Loren Legarda, Bam Aquino, JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Sonny Angara, Ralph Recto, Sherwin Gatchalian, Francis Pangilinan, and Leila de Lima.
Pangilinan is expected to sponsor the bill in the plenary in May.
If passed, the measure will prohibit an incumbent’s family members (up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity) from running for office.
The prohibition covers siblings, spouses, parents, children, and the children’s spouses. Meanne Corvera
