19.8 million to 31.9 million people “predicted to be exposed” to Super Typhoon Rolly — NDRMMC

Close to 97k families or 347k individuals already preemptively evacuated

(Eagle News) — A total of 19.8 million people to 31.9 million people are “predicted to be exposed” to Super Typhoon Rolly (international name Goni), located in 12 exposed or affected regions in the country, according to authorities.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad said that they based their projections for a 60 kilometer radius, and a 120 kilometer radius respectively.

Officials have already preemptively evacuated 96,653 families or 346,993 inidividuals as a preventive measure.

Super typhoon Rolly, with maximum sustained winds of 225 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 310 kph, has put Albay and Camarines Sur under signal no. 5, and 14 other provinces, including Metro Manila under signal no. 4.

The typhoon has so far made two landfalls: the first in Bato, Catanduanes, and the second in Tiwi, Albay.

“Based on the current projected track of Super typhoon Rolly, the estimated population of 19.8 m are exposed to the typhoon within the 60 km diameter radius and 31.9 million within the 120 km diameter radius,” Jalad said in a press briefing Sunday morning, Nov. 1.

Jalad, who is also the administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, said that these are composed of 4.2 million households within the 60 km radius, and 7.1 million households within the 120 kilometer radius.

Of these affected households, 1.3 m households are considered among the poor population in the 60 km radius. In the 120 kilometer radius, 2.4 million are considered among the poor households in the country.

The affected regions are: Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, CAR, and Metro Manila.

Jalad said that 105,000 houses within the 60 km radius are made of light materials, while 221,000 houses are made of light materials within the 120 kilometer radius of the typhoon.
