(Eagle News) — There are no cases of bird flu transmission in humans in the country so far.
This is according to Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial, who held a press conference a day after Australian lab tests confirmed that the strain found in Pampanga farms where the bird flu outbreak took place could be transmitted to people.
According to Ubial, the 34 people who were tested for H5N6 because they exhibited flu-like symptoms have tested negative.
She said they were still waiting for the results of the tests on seven new samples gathered from Pampanga and Nueva Ecija.
During the press conference, Ubial reminded the public to resort to measures to ensure zero infection.
“Kung pwede, huwag sila paexpose sa live birds or fowl. Iyan ang pinakasource ng avian influenza,” she said.
She also reminded the public to “make handwashing a regular activity.”
Those who wish to eat chicken, she said, should make sure that it is cooked properly.
Farm owners and personnel were also advised to wear protective personal equipment.
