(Eagle News)– The man behind the killing of Christine Silawan has surrendered.
Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde said the 43-year-old man identified as Renato Bayuban Llenes alias “Renren” went to the Cebu police on April 9 and confessed to the killing of the Cebu student on March 11.
The police chief said the suspect admitted to murdering the girl with a scissor.
Silawan’s body was found in a vacant lot in Lapu-Lapu City.
Authorities initially tagged a 17-year-old boy, Silawan’s former boyfriend, as a suspect.
He was taken into Department of Social Welfare and Development custody, but a Cebu prosecutor ordered his release, saying his arrest could not be considered a warrantless arrest.
The boy was returned to DSWD custody after President Rodrigo Duterte, a former prosecutor, rebuked the decision of the Cebu prosecutor, saying the 17-year-old’s case was indeed covered by such.
