5.9 magnitude quake shakes Sarangani

(Eagle News) – A magnitude 5.9 quake shook Sarangani province, Saturday morning with the epicenter located eight kilometers northwest of Malapatan town and was felt at nearby cities of General Santos, Digos and Davao.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake struck at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 5. It was located at a depth of 74 kilometers.

Phivolcs said they expect aftershocks to happen.

The quake was felt at intensify 5 in Malapatan and Alabel in Sarangani, as well as in General Santos City; at intensity 4 in Digos City in Davao del Sur, and Kiamba in Sarangani; and at intensity 3 in Davao City and Lebak in Sultan Kudarat.

Last April 29, a magnitude 7.2 quake also rocked Sarangani which caused injuries and structural damages in some buildings and structures.
