5 more SC justices ready to take witness stand in impeachment case against Sereno

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Five more Supreme Court Justices will take the witness stand against Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

This means there will be a total of nine SC Justices who are ready to air their grievances and reveal allegedly improper conduct of Sereno before the House Committee on Justice.  Four have already testified before the impeachment hearings, namely, Associate Justices Teresita De Castro, Noel Tijam, Francis Jardeleza, and retired associate justice Arturo Brion.

Impeachment complainant lawyer Larry Gadon said five more incumbent justices are ready to appear before the House committee on justice when impeachment hearings resume in January next year.

He identified these Supreme Court justices as Associate Justices Antonio Carpio, Samuel Martires, Mariano del Castillo, Diosdado Peralta and Andres Reyes Jr.

Sereno’s spokesperson, Aldwin Salumbides, however claimed Gadon’s statements were just “propaganda” against Sereno.

The Chief Justice is facing impeachment complaints for her alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, corruption, other high crimes and betrayal of public trust.
