A magnitude 6.3 quake struck Batangas, about 1:30 pm Friday, August 11, which was also felt in parts of Luzon, including Mindoro and Metro Manila, sending many people out to the streets.
The quake’s epicenter was located at 16 kilometers southwest of Nasugbu, Batangas and had a depth of 160 kilometers, according to PHIVOLCS.
The quake was felt at intensity four in Calapan, Mindoro; Subic, Zambales; Rosario, Cavite; Manila; and Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.
It was felt at intensity 3 in Pateros City, Quezon City, Makati City in Metro Manila; Malolos, Bulacan; Cainta, Rizal; and in Calamba, Laguna.
The quake was felt at intensity 2 in Magalang, Pampanga and in Tanauan City in Batangas.
The USGS recorded the quake at magnitude 6.2. It recorded it at 8.1 kilometers north northwest of Balayan, Batangas.
People also reported that the quake was felt in Cavite and in Pangasinan.
In Metro Manila, people immediately rushed out to the streets after feeling the tremor.
In Batangas, the quake also struck fear among residents who had experience strong tremors in April.
Schoolchildren in some of the schools were also guided outside the school buildings shortly after the quake. Teachers also tried to calm scared pupils who were gathered in the school grounds.
