7 of new infections came from 1 family; among infected were a 6-year old, and an 11-month old child
(Eagle News) – Eight new Delta variant cases were found in Cagayan de Oro City, according to the city’s local government.
Seven of the eight new confirmed Delta variant infections came from one family in Bgy. Balulang. Among those that tested positive were a six-year old and an 11-month old child. The other Delta variant case came from Bgy. Canitoan.
The eight city residents were reported positive for COVID-19 in June, and have been certified as “clinically recovered patients” as of July. They were allowed to return to their homes on July 15 and 18.
When the results of their specimen samples came back from the Philippine Genome Center, they were confirmed to be positive for the Delta variant.
Because of this Cagayan de Oro City mayor Oscar Moreno immediately ordered that they be “re-extracted” from their community so that they could be placed in isolation in a quarantine facility in the city.
“They are seven family members—grandparents, couple and their children—in Barangay Balulang and one resident in Upper (Barangay) Canitoan. All of them were certified recovered and at their homes (when the DOH released their swab samples) and they will be extracted and placed immediately in isolation again while contact tracing is ongoing by our teams at the City Health Office,’ Mayor Moreno said during Thursday noon’s City Hall press briefing.
Cagayan de Oro City health office medical officer Dr. Ted Yu said the contact tracing will be expanded to include third generation contacts of these Delta variant cases.
‘All swab samples of the eight cases were sent to the Philippine Genomic Center last July 7 and their results were released last July 25. The family was certified recovered last July 15 while the Canitoan resident was certified recovered last July 18,” Yu said
Because of this, a total of 13 residents in Cagayan de Oro City have already tested positive for the Delta variant.
Cagayan de Oro City will continue to be under Enhanced Community Quarantine until Aug. 7.
The Philippines has reported a total of 216 Delta variant cases, including the 97 new infected reported on Thursday, July 29, by the Philippine Genome Center.
