Belmonte rules out impeachment vs. Duterte

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Outgoing House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte said that there’s zero possibility that he would lead an impeachment trial against President-elect Rodrigo Duterte in the 17th congress to favor Vice President-elect Leni Robredo.

In an interview after the turnover of the 1935 bronze bust of National Hero Jose Rizal by Guillermo
Tolentino to the House of Representatives, Belmonte called all these talk as “intrigues” or speculations.

He said he saw no reason for Duterte to be impeached this early.

Earlier, reports surfaced that the ruling liberal party were plotting to wrest the presidency from Rodrigo Duterte, if elected and if Robredo wins as Vice President.

“Alam mo, why should we be talking about that, we should be talking about confidence, we should be talking about achieving and so far hindi yung parang may takutan na rito, parang may negativism na. It’s a new administration. Let’s think positive as a people, as politicians, as everything. Positive tayo, let’s look forward to great achievements for our people instead of talking about negative ideas like impeaching or anything like that. We’re doing ourselves a big disservice as a people by doing that thing,” House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte said.
