No penalties for companies that don’t regularize employees

QUEZON City, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment admitted in the hearing of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources that the law penalizing companies for not regularizing their employees is weak.  Labor Assistant Secretary Joji Aragon said  that what the DOLE can only do is to order the payment of the compensation of the employee whose contract has ended.

This was, however, countered by Senator Franklin Drilon who said that there is a law that is already in place since 1974 regarding the prevention of labor abuses against employees.
