BEIJING, China (CCTV) — The presidents of China and the Philippines will exchange views on improving bilateral relations and deepening cooperation, said Geng Shuang, spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Beijing on Wednesday.

Geng made the announcement at a daily briefing when asked about the upcoming state visit of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to China. Duterte’s state visit to China will last from Oct 18 to 21.

“At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will pay a state visit to China from Oct 18 to 21. During Duterte’s stay in China, President Xi Jinping will hold talks with him to exchange views on improving and developing bilateral relations, on deepening cooperation in all fields and on international and regional issues of mutual concern. Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang will also meet President Duterte,” said Geng.

China hopes to increase thee political mutual trust between the two countries through the state visit, said Geng.

“Through Duterte’s state visit, China hopes to increase the political mutual trust between the two countries, deepen practical cooperation, enhance traditional friendship, solve disputes through dialogue, bring bilateral strategic cooperation for peace and development back to the right track of healthy and steady development. The two sides are working closely on the concrete arrangements of the state visit, the outcome document and other issues,” said Geng.
