Cases of stray bullet and illegal discharge of firearms dwindles this year

MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Philippine National Police- Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (PNP-DIDM) released today (December 30), a comparative report on the stray bullet and illegal discharge of firearms as of December 28, 2016.

According to the police report, the trend of stray bullet cases this year has decreased by 85.45% compared to the statistics last year.

From December 16 to December 28, 2016, there are 8 reported cases of stray bullets in the Philippines. Three from the Central Visayas and in the National Capital Region (NCR); and 1 stray bullet case both in Soccsksargen and in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Over the last three years, statistics on stray bullets are dancing in figures. In 2013, there were 31 cases reported; 68 cases in 2014; and 55 incident last year.

Meanwhile, the statistics for the Indiscriminate Firing and Illegal discharge of firearms also dwindled this year. There are only 10 reported incidents of indiscriminate firing from Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, ARMM, and NCR, as compared to the 32 cases of firing on 2013 and 40 cases on 2014.

Though the reported cases of stray bullets and indiscriminate firing have really declined, the PNP officials maintain their heightened alert to keep the public safe, two days before the New Year’s Eve.
