MANILA, Philippines (Eagle News) — More than 150 workers were injured in a fire that hit a factory inside the Cavite Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) on Wednesday night.
Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said the fire started around 6:00 PM in the evening at the Housing Technology Industries (HTI), a facility that manufactures housing materials for exportation to Japan.
Remulla also said that 40 people who got injured in the incident were brought in the hospital of Divine Grace Medical Center while others were admitted to the General Trias Hospital.
About 10 people who suffered from 3rd degree burns, are still in critical condition.
According to Remulla, 70 to 90 percent of their bodies were burned and have been treated at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
By 2 A.M. on Thursday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and EPZA firefighters put out the blaze and declared that the fire was under control.
The origin of the blaze has yet to be determined.
