(Reuters) — A 62-gun salute fired by the Honourable Artillery Company at the Tower of London and chimes at the Westminster Abbey on Monday (February 6) celebrated Queen Elizabeth II as the world’s longest reigning sovereign.

Monday marks the queen’s Sapphire Jubilee – 65 years on the throne, the first ever British monarch to have reached such a milestone.

The 90-year-old queen acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 when her father died.
