QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — A burst of romantic excitement was immediately turned into sorrow when Mary Christine Balagtas, 23, was shot dead on Wednesday (April 5) after receiving a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates.
Balagtas, a former beauty queen in Bulacan was shot in the left side of the head by one of two men who delivered the gifts to her in front of her house in 1st La Miranda Subdivision, Barangay Banga in Bulacan at 9:10 in the morning.
Her mother immediately rushed to the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Pulilan, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Supt. Julio Lizardo, Plaridel chief of police, said the two suspects immediately fled the crime scene.
Based on the initial investigation, the attack could have been carried out by a hired killer.
“Witnesses had seen the suspects in the neighborhood shortly before the shooting,” Lizardo said.
A .45 caliber gun bullet was recovered from the crime scene.
