ENGLAND, United Kingdom (Reuters) — A fleet of colorful hot air balloons crossed English Channel on Friday (April 7), attempting to break the record for the largest group of hot air balloons to cross the English Channel.
The total number of 85 balloons took part in the attempt, the BBC reported. Organizers said 82 balloons that took off from Dover in Kent on Friday morning made it to Calais in France in less than three hours.
“It is just fantastic being up with so many other balloons, […] it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.” said one of the pilots Andrew Holly.
The previous record for the number of balloons flying over the channel was 49.
