(Eagle News) — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has already recorded more than 1,000 aftershocks since Tuesday’s (April 4) magnitude 5.5 earthquake that first rocked Batangas last week.
According to PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum, these recorded quakes include the four quakes that hit Batangas last Saturday, April 8, the strongest of which was the magnitude 6.0 quake that struck 3:09 p.m.
Solidum explained that such quakes are what they called ‘earthquake swarm’ — since there has been a series of quakes in Batangas with no distinctive large quakes, which may last for weeks.
Solidum then asked the public to refrain from spreading false information in the social media.
“We appeal to the public not to send or forward any information that may further cause confusion and fear among people,” Solidum said.
