QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has announced plans to conduct a third metrowide quake drill this July.
According to the MMDA, the “Metro Manila ShakeDrill” will be held for five consecutive days, from July 14 to 18.
Aside from Metro Manila, other nearby provinces such as Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna will participate.
“Yung preparedness must go down already to the community level. Pag nangyari ang isang sakuna, hahanapin ng tao yung gobyerno. Hahanapin niya hanggang doon sa baba,” MMDA officer in charge Tim Orbos said.
The announcement was made amid the spate of earthquakes that hit Batangas, and parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
The MMDA said the drill was to ensure the public’s preparedness if the “Big One” strikes.
“Kasi yung national government will be so busy in tackling yung disaster on a bigger scale. Pero yung ating taong bayan, lalo na yung sa mga komunidad nila, kailangan may makitang gobyerno na tumatakbo. Kaya sa susunod na shake drill isasama na natin ang barangay,” Orbos added.
