Napoles acquitted in serious illegal detention rap, to remain in detention for plunder and graft

The Court of Appeals has acquitted Janet Lim Napoles, the accused mastermind in the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam, in the serious illegal detention case filed by whistleblower Benhur Luy.

In a decision dated May 5, the CA 12th division has granted Napoles’ appeal, and recommended her acquittal for the alleged crime of kidnapping Luy in 2012.

The CA has also ordered the immediate release of Napoles. But Napoles is still facing other non-bailable cases related to the pork barrel scam.

Luy has claimed that Napoles and her brother, Reynald Lim, detained him from December 20, 2012 to March 22, 2013.

Napoles however, repeatedly denied that they ever detained Luy.
