AFP spokesperson says he has not read report, but that it contains recommendations that stem from the June “accident”
(Eagle News) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines has finished its probe into the incident that saw “friendly fire” kill at least 10 government troopers in Marawi weeks ago.
Brigadier General Restituto Padilla, AFP spokesperson, said at the Mindanao Hour briefing on Wednesday that the report of the Board of Inquiry led by General Raffy Valencia has been submitted to AFP chief of staff General Eduardo Año.
Padilla said he has not read the report, but that it contained “all recommendations” made by Valencia after the “accident.”
“Dapat niyo maintindihan, the BOI is a body created to immediately look into the possible cause (of what happened). They are not going to do a detailed investigation so the recommendation may entail some units to hold a deeper investigation,” Padilla said.
He added that the “gist of the report” may be in the areas of whether or not there was proper coordination among troops on the ground, among others.
Early June, at least 10 soldiers were killed in the failed airstrike aimed at local terrorists instead.
The local terrorists had overrun parts of the city weeks ago, in a bid to carve out a province for the international terrorist group Islamic State, authorities said.
