QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Senate minority leader Franklin Drilon said it was impossible for any senator to support Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s proposal to extend martial law in Mindanao for five years.
“The Senate, you know, we will stand as one and I don’t think any senator will agree to five years,” Drilon said.
He admitted, however, that “theoretically,” Congress could approve the same.
“But…I don’t think any senator in his right mind will agree to five years,” he stressed.
The senator also noted that President Rodrigo Duterte should be the one to ask for the extension, adding that a new military briefing was needed to support such.
