(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to rid the government of corruption.
“I said I would stop corruption in government. I’m doing it,” he said during the opening of a solar plant in Batangas.
He provided what could be an explanation for why his son’s name was being dragged into the P6.4-B drug shipment mess, saying Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte–who eloped with his wife when he was 18 years old– would always be in the ports to help out his in-laws.
He said the younger Duterte’s in-laws are engaged in the “ukay-ukay” business.
“He has to earn his keep, work for the family,” the President said.
In any case, he said if the corruption allegations against his son were proven true, he would tender his resignation.
He said their bank accounts were open for the public to see.
“What I’m committed to do is there will be no corruption in this government,” he said.
