Lawyer files impeachment complaint vs Chief Justice Sereno; 25 lawmakers endorse complaint

(Eagle News) — A lawyer on Wednesday filed an impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno for alleged betrayal of public trust, among others.

Twenty-five members of the House of Representatives endorsed lawyer Larry Gadon’s complaint, which he earlier said would have  endorsements from at least 10 lawmakers.

Earlier, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption and the Vanguard of the Philippine Constitution Inc. filed an impeachment complaint against Sereno after she allegedly violated the Constitution when she bypassed the Supreme Court en banc when she made certain decisions.

But no House lawmaker has endorsed the complaint so far.

In his complaint, Gadon took to task Sereno for what he said was an “excessive” and “whimsical” purchase of the latest model of the Toyota Land Cruiser amounting to P5.1 million.

He said this was despite the fact that the vehicle was priced only at P4.5 million.

Gadon also accused Sereno of not declaring her “exorbitant lawyer’s fees” amounting to $745,000 or P37 million.
