CHR to issue request “one more time”
(Eagle News) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government said on Friday that President Rodrigo Duterte has thumbed down the Commission on Human Rights request to view police case folders on supposed extrajudicial killings.
“Yes. It’s something like that,” DILG officer-In-charge Catalino Cuy said in a chance interview when asked if Duterte would heed the CHR’s request.
He said he already informed CHR Chairman Chito Gascon about the President’s “standing order” in an Aug. 29 meeting that included representatives from the commission, and from the Philippine National Police and the DiLG.
“We would continue with our meetings. I hope (the commission) would understand our position,” Cuy said, noting that they would “find other ways” to help.
Sought for comment, Gascon said the CHR would issue a request “one more time.”
If this was denied again, the CHR would issue a subpoena for the documents to be produced, Gascon said.
