Opposition lawmakers “insulted” they got invites for Marcos’ 100th birthday

(Eagle News) – Anti-Marcos congressmen who have received invitations for Monday’s (September 11) 100th birth anniversary of the late President Ferdinand Marcos said they felt insulted that they got invites from the Marcos family for the event.

Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, for instance, said that they have opposed Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, so this was a big insult not only for him but for the victims of human rights violations during Martial Law pressing compensation from the Marcos family.

“That would really add more insult to injury to the sovereign Filipino many of whom suffered under martial law through violation of their human rights,” he said.

Lagman insisted that Marcos does not deserve to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“I think it is the height of lack of shame for the Marcos family to celebrate the 100 birth anniversary of the late President in the Libingan ng mga Bayani which was desecrated by his very interment in that memorial park”

Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin also felt the same way.

“Yes I did get an invite and puked on it!” Rep. Villarin said.

Malacanang has already declared Monday, Sept. 11, as a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte so they can celebrate the 100th birthday of the late President.
