(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday confirmed that Secretary Rodolfo Salalima of the Department of Information and Communications Technology has tendered his resignation.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the DICT chief cited personal and work-related reasons.
“As of this date, there is no official word from the Office of the Executive Secretary as to whether the President has accepted Secretary Salalima’s offer to resign,” Abella said.
In an interview with reporters in Marawi, President Rodrigo Duterte said Salalima offered to resign out of delicadeza.
He said he was looking for the “best person” to replace him.
As early as last month, two government officials were reported as being on their way out because of conflict of interest.
Salalima—a former classmate of the President at the San Beda College of Law—-was chief legal counsel and senior adviser to Globe Telecoms.
He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the National ICT Advisory Council, and a former board director of the Telecoms Infrastructure Corporation of the Philippines.
His offer to resign comes as the DICT gears up to implement the P77.9-billion national broadband project.
