(Eagle News) — Over 30 Customs employees and officials were sacked on Monday for failing to stop corruption and for failing to meet their collection targets.
Customs Chief Isidro Lapeña said of the 38, eight are district collectors, and 30, section chiefs.
The eight were Elvira Cruz of the Cebu port; Romeo Rosales of the San Fernando port; Jose Naig of thr Iloilo port; Julius Premediles of the Limay port; Divina Garrido of the Legazpi port; Carmelita Talusan of the Subic port; Tomas Alcid of the Aparti port; and Halleck Valdez of the Zamboanga port.
The 30 section chiefs are from the Formal Entry Division ng Port of Manila and the Manila International Container Port.
Their dismissal comes after the sacking of district collectors Atty. Rhea Gregorio of the Manila port and Atty. Vincent Philip Maronilla of the MICP for the same reasons in September.
Nicanor Faeldon turned over the reins of the BoC to Isidro Lapeña.
Lapeña was appointed as BoC chief after Faeldon came under fire for the entry of a P6.4-billion drug shipment via Customs express lanes in May.
Senator Panfilo Lacson hailed Lapeña’s appointment, calling the former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief an “honest” man.
