(Eagle News) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said it was ready to offer Ralph Trangia, one of the primary suspects in the death of hazing-victim Horacio “Atio” Castillo III, witness protection, if he will tell all that he knows about the hazing incident.
“While he may be a suspect as of the moment, depending on what he will tell our investigators, he could be a potential witness. And for this reason, the DOJ (Department of Justice) offers to him and to his family, the protection of our Witness Protection Program (WPP),” Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said.
Aguirre said he expects Trangia has good intentions in returning to the country to solve the case of Castillo.
“Hopefully, Mr. Trangia’s return is covered with good intentions to clear his name and to tell the truth,” he said in a statement.
The justice secretary also encouraged Trangia, his family and other Aegis members to tell the truth.
Trangia is believed to be the one who brought Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital on the night of September 17.
Castillo is a freshmen lawyer student who died during initiation rites of the fraternity group Aegis Juris, an organization recognized by the UST Faculty of Civil Law.
