Reuters — “Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” scored the top spot at the North American weekend box office over the weekend (October 20-22).
The ninth “Madea” movie, directed and starring Perry, beat expectations, bringing in $21 million — well above the $19 million many expected it to make in it’s debut weekend, according to boxofficemojo.com.
Big budget disaster movie “Geostorm”, starring Gerrard Butler, claimed the second place spot with $13.3 million in ticket sales.
The previous weekend’s number one, slasher film “Happy Death Day”, starring Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussar, dropped to the number three spot, adding $9.3 million dollars to its total take.
The fourth place spot went to “Blade Runner 2049,” starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. The film brought in $7 million over the weekend.
Rounding out the top five, “Only the Brave,” which tells the true story of firefighters who gave their lives to fight one of the deadliest wildfires in recent U.S. history, rang up $6 million in ticket sales.
