Paolo Duterte vows to retire from politics in 2019

(Eagle News) — Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is retiring from politics in 2019.

A PNA report quoted the presidential son as saying that while it “will still  be a Carpio-Duterte tandem (running for) the mayor and vice mayor” posts in Davao after his term, “definitely it will not be me.”

The vice mayor was referring to  Manases Carpio, the husband of his sister Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, and another Duterte, Sebastian, with whom he said talks have been ongoing.

The Davao vice mayor made the comment after his sister Sara announced her bid for a seat in the House of Representatives after her term.

“If you will ask me where I would go, I will be going back to farming,” he said, noting that he had a farm at the back of his house.

He said he also wanted to focus more on his family, who he said have been affected by the accusations hurled against him by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Trillanes earlier accused the Davao vice mayor of being a member of an international triad engaged in illegal drugs, and of being involved in smuggling.

The vice mayor has denied the allegations.
