(Eagle News) — A day after his official retirement as Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff, Lt. General Eduardo Año was appointed Department of the Interior and Local Government undersecretary.
President Rodrigo Duterte himself made the appointment in an Oct. 26 memorandum sent to the DILG.
Earlier, Duterte said Año, who retired after reaching the mandatory age of retirement for military officers, could serve as special assistant to the president or DILG undersecretary, whichever was “legally tenable,” before he assumes his post as DILG secretary after the required one-year ban.
In his speech during the change of command ceremonies on Thursday, Duterte lauded Año, whose retirement comes after the military declared the war in Marawi over, for his “distinguished leadership.”
