QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Malacañang welcomed the news that United States President Donald Trump will extend his visit in the Philippines.
This was after the White House confirmed that President Trump decided to extend his visit to attend the East Asia Summit scheduled on November 14.
Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that this will be a good opportunity to build better relations between the Philippines and the US.
“The Palace welcomes the announcement of the White House that President Donald Trump would extend his stay in the Philippines to attend the East Asia Summit,” Andanar said.
“The President looks forward to engaging President Trump in the productive dialogue at the ASEAN-US Commemorative Summit and the EAS.” he added.
Trump had earlier announced: “We’re actually staying an extra day in the Philippines. We have a big conference, the second conference, and I think we’ll be talking about trade. We’ll be talking about, obviously, North Korea.”
The US President will also attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Manila.
Trump will attend the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN on Nov. 12 and the ASEAN-US Summit the next day.
Japan is Trump’s first stop in his 12-day Asian trip, his first as US president.
