(Eagle News) — The suspect in the killing of model Grab driver Gerardo Maquidato Jr. said he was “only after money” at the time he committed the crime.
“Alam ko mahihirapan kayong mapatawad ako pero pera lang ang gusto ko sa kanya pero lumaban po siya,” Narc Tulod Delemios, who is now in police custody after he gave surrender feelers through his mother in law to authorities on Tuesday night, said in a press conference on Wednesday.
The wife of Maquidato, Brenda, turned emotional upon seeing Delemios.
“Parang hayop ang ginawa mo sa kanya. Pagsisisihan mo nang habambuhay ang ginawa mo,” she told the suspect.
According to authorities, when taken into police custody, Delemios already had a warrant of arrest issued by a court in connection with the murder of Gino Balbuena in 2014 in Baclaran, Paranaque.
Delemios was at that time positively identified by a witness.
Gun, Grab vehicle recovered
The gun used to kill Maquidato and the Grab vehicle, a silver Toyota Innova, were recovered somewhere in Tarlac, the reported hometown of Delemios’ live-in partner, the police said.
The vehicle in particular, Insp. Wilhelmino Alcantara, intelligence officer of the Tarlac Police, said was seen parked at an abandoned building on McArthur Highway, Barangay Matatalahib.
But authorities denied Delemios’ live-in partner had any role in disposing of evidences, noting that her Grab account was only used to book Maquidato’s Grab vehicle.
According to authorities, Delemios and several companions booked the vehicle on the night of Oct. 26.
After reaching the Cartimar area in Pasay, the police said the booking was cancelled.
A witness said he heard gunshots at 7:50 p.m., then saw a body–later identified as Maquidato’s– being pushed out of the silver Toyota Innova on Bonanza St. in Pasay.
Maquidato made waves on social media after he gave a diabetes patient on her way to collect bags of blood for her dialysis a free ride in 2016.
