Tropical Storm “Salome” moves away from land; to exit PAR early Saturday

(Eagle News) — Rains are still expected in several parts of the country as “Salome,” now a tropical storm, nears the West Philippine Sea and moves away from land.

As of 5 a.m., the center of the tropical storm was spotted  55 kilometers west southwest of Subic, Zambales, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 100 kph.

“Salome” continues to move west southwest at 20 kph, and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Saturday.

Signal Number 2 has been hoisted over Bataan and southern Zambales, while Signal Number 1 was over Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, the rest of Zambales and the rest of northern Occidental Mindoro.

As of 4 a.m., Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales are under a  heavy rainfall warning, which means the rains there can cause  flashfloods in low-lying areas.

Occasional rains and gusty winds are expected in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are also expected in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Oriental Mindoro, the rest of central luzon and Calabarzon.
