A week after breaking two Guinness world records for the largest charity walk, the Philippines was once again declared as “officially amazing” after setting the record for the most number of hunger relief packs distributed within eight hours.
The declaration was made by Guinness Book of World Records Adjudicator Seyda Subasi Gemici at Laur, Nueva Ecija, at the close of the Lingap sa Mamamayan conducted by the Iglesia ni Cristo.
“I have the pleasure to announce that the world record attempt for the most number of hunger relief packages distributed in eight hours, with an achieved number of 302,311 hunger relief packages. Mabuhay ang Iglesia ni Cristo. You are all officially amazing!” Gemici said, to the cheers of an enthusiastic crowd at the Unlad Kabuhayan Garment Factory in Barrio Maligaya.
Gemici herself documented the distribution, to ensure that the strict guidelines laid down by Guinness were observed.
The declaration coincided with the 49th anniversary of Barrio Maligaya, a resettlement project by the Iglesia ni Cristo for its members who were affected by the Hacienda Luisita dispute in 1965 and the Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991.
An estimated three million people turned up at the Laur Lingap event, which started at 7:09 Saturday morning.
Aside from the distribution of relief packs, the Lingap also gave free medical and dental services to the people of Laur.
