QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) formed a task force that will handle the charges against erring policemen or also known as “police scalawags.”
By virtue of Department Order No. 697, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre formed a 14-man, high-level state prosecutor panel to handle the criminal complaints against policemen who are reported involved in illegal dealings.
The task force is headed by Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Severino Gana. Other members of the team are Senior Assistant State Prosecutors Juan Pedro Navera, Susan Azarcon, Edwin Dayog, Susan Villanueva, Ma. Emilia Victorio, and Hazel Decena-Valdez; Assistant State Prosecutors Aristotle Reyes, Consuelo Corazon Pazzuiagan, Chulo Palencia Jr.,; and Assistant Prosecution Attorneys Borgy Calugay, Jonathan Paul Dimaano, Joan Carla Garcia and Loverhette Jeffrey Villordon.
Based on a report by the Philippine National Police, there are over 1, 000 policemen who were allegedly involved in illegal acts like extortion, illegal logging, smuggling and hidden wealth.
