(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday asked the public to give him another year to finish off the drug problem in the country.
“Basta ang sabi ko sa droga, I hope to finish the problem, give me just another year,” Duterte said before the newly-appointed government officials in the Palace.
He noted the police would return in the drug war, months after it was told to refrain from engaging in drug operations following killings of several individuals such as Carl Arnaiz.
The killings were blamed on uncrupulous policemen who used the war on drugs as a pretext to commit crime.
On Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced the President ordered the PNP and others to provide “active support” to PDEA in recognition of the agency’s lack of human resources despite its accomplishments.
At the start of Duterte’s term, the PNP was given the lead role in the war on drugs.
