(Eagle News) — Sanofi Pasteur on Wednesday apologized for what a lawmaker said was its “irresponsible statement” that caused a “public scandal.”

“I am sorry it has created confusion, this is why I would like to clarify..,” Thomas Triomphe, Asia Pacific head of Sanofi, told members of the House of Representatives’ panel committee on good government and public accountability.

Triomphe made the statement when asked by Rep. Rodante Marcoleta if he was sorry for what he said was the “reckless” and “irresponsible” Sanofi statement on the possible effects of the vaccine on those who were administered with such but who have not had any dengue.

Marcoleta said the statement caused a “public scandal” and a “public uproar.”

“I do apologize indeed if there was a misunderstanding from this miscommunication,” Triomphe said.

In its most recent advisory, Sanofi said “severe cases” could occur in those who were given the vaccine but who have not had the dengue virus.

It said the information came to light only recently.
