(Eagle News) — Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday said that the Philippines was not transferring its embassy to Jerusalem.
Cayetano made the pronouncement in a GMA7 interview, following a wire report that said that the Philippines was among countries considering making the move after United States President Donald Trump publicly recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Apart from the Philippines, the report, quoting an Israeli public radio station, said Romania and South Sudan were mulling the possibility.
“In fact, (Israel) clarified reports to their friends that the Philippines did not communicate to them that we will transfer or not,” Cayetano said.
According to Cayetano, “we have communicated clearly to all our friends in the Middle East that there hasn’t been any discussion or move to move our embassy from Tel Aviv.”
He reiterated that the Philippines supports a two-state policy.
“We are for peaceful resolution of conflict,” Cayetano said.
