(Eagle News) — Former Customs Chief Nicanor Faeldon is back in government service.
In a letter dated December 22, President Rodrigo Duterte designated Faeldon as deputy administrator III of the Office of the Civil Defense.
The office is under the Department of National Defense.
Faeldon came under fire when he was head of the Bureau of Customs after a P6.4-billion shabu shipment managed to enter the country via Customs express lanes in May.
The Senate blue ribbon committee launched an inquiry into the incident, and into corruption in the BoC.
In a privilege speech in August, Senator Panfilo Lacson accused Faeldon of receiving a P100- million “gift” from Customs players.
In September, Faeldon, who by this time had already resigned from the BoC, was detained in the Senate for his refusal to attend subsequent Senate blue ribbon committee hearings.
