Palace tells public to abide by rules on use of fireworks for the New Year

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday appealed for the public to follow the rules and regulations on the use of fireworks and pyrotechnics in celebration of the New Year.

“Let us all have a safe New Year celebration,” the Office of the Executive Secretary said in a statement.

The OES noted that President Rodrigo Duterte has already signed Executive Order No. 28, which limits the use of allowable fireworks to a mere community fireworks display.

“Such use qualifies as community fireworks display if they are conducted as part of a celebration held in a venue other than the place of residence, and under the supervision of a trained person licensed by the Philippine National Police, and allowed by the municipality or city through a permit which specifies the date, time, and specific area in which it will be conducted,” it said.

The OES also noted that only the Baby Rocket, Bawang, Small Triangulo, Pulling of Strings, El Diablo, watusi, Judah’s Belt, Paper Caps, Sky Rocket, and other types that are equivalent in explosive content were the allowable firecrackers under Republic Act No. 7183.

The pyrotechnic devices allowed under the law are sparklers, fountain, luces, Mabuhay, Roman candle, Jumbo regular and special, Airwolf, Butterfly, Trompillo, and other types equivalent to the foregoing devices, the OES said.

According to the OES, firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices with gunpowder exceeding two grams or 1.3 teaspoons, or those using sulfur and/or phosphorus mixed with chlorates are prohibited.

The Whistle Bomb, Goodbye Earth, Atomic Big Triangulo and Super Lolo are also banned.
