Roque says President Duterte’s trip to Kuwait “in the offing”

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has been invited to Kuwait amid the temporary suspension in the deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers there.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the trip was “in the offing,” following the President’s meeting with Kuwait Ambassador to the Philippines Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh on Wednesday.

Roque said he did not know what the details of the bilateral meeting were.

“I guess Kuwait wants to assure the President that Philippine nationals are protected in Kuwait,” Roque said of the planned trip.

On January 20, the Department of Labor and Employment suspended the deployment of OFWs in the oil-rich country.

This was after Duterte noted what he said were the abuses of OFWs there.
