Criminal charges were  filed on Friday against the son-in-law of National Democratic Front of the Philippines consultant Rafael Baylosis.

The charges for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition were filed against Marklen Maojo Maga, a suspected member of the New People’s Army, before the Department of Justice.

Maga, 38, was arrested by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region and the military’s intelligence unit in San Mateo, Rizal on Thursday.

The arrest was by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued against him by a court for the murder of a soldier in Agusan in March 2017.

Authorities said  a .45 cal. pistol and bullets were recovered from him.

In a statement, the militant Kilusang Mayo Uno slammed the arrest of Maga, who they said worked as an organizer for the organization.

“We hold the Duterte regime responsible for the abduction and illegal arrest of Maga. This is part of his fentanyl-driven rampage against critics of his fascist and oppressive rule. This regime is stepping-up its fascist attacks against workers and the people to quell their resistance against his establishment of a fascist dictatorship,” KMU said.

Baylosis, who was arrested in January, was one of the first to be arrested after President Rodrigo Duterte called off peace talks between the government and the communists. Moira Encina
