Aquino, others visit De Lima on her first year in detention

(Eagle News)– Former President Benigno Aquino III and several others trooped to Camp Crame on Saturday to mark Senator Leila de Lima’s first anniversary in detention.

Apart from Aquino, Senator Franklin Drilon and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas visited De Lima, who is detained on drug-related charges in connection with her alleged role  in the drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison when she was justice secretary.

On Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque greeted De Lima “a happy anniversary.”

He said the senator’s “incarceration shows that the criminal justice system in the Philippines (was) alive, effective and working.”

De Lima is facing separate drug-related cases in the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court.
