Former Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, who was cited in contempt by the Senate for his refusal to attend subsequent hearings on corruption in the Bureau of Customs last year, was released from detention on Monday.
It was Senator Richard Gordon, with whom Faeldon has repeatedly exchanged harsh words, who ordered his release.
Before being released, Faeldon promised to not “talk back” to the senators during hearings.
“So the committee chair hereby orders your release from incarceration,” Gordon said.
In a subsequent order, the Senate asked the Senate Sergeant at Arms to carry out the release.
Faeldon has been detained in the Senate since September.
He was later transferred to the Pasay City Jail.
