The arrest order issued against former Commission on Elections Chair Andres Bautista may be lifted next month.
This was after Bautista’s lawyer, Anacleto Diaz, promised to submit his client’s affidavit to the Senate committee on banks on March 26, 2018.
The panel led by Senator Francis Escudero is looking into the allegations of undeclared wealth against Bautista, who was again a no-show in the hearing on Monday.
According to Escudero, once he received the affidavit, he would recommend the lifting of the arrest order against the COMELEC chief.
Bautista was ordered arrested after he repeatedly snubbed the panel’s hearings, saying he was abroad and was currently looking for job opportunities and medical assistance.
But Escudero did not buy Bautista’s argument, saying there were no records of the former COMELEC chief leaving the country again following his return to the same last year.
