QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Commission on Election said that it will not print new voter’s identification cards because of previous discussions on the national ID system in Congress.
COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez also stressed said that a voter’s ID is not really a requirement for voting.
“The poll body suspended the printing and issuance of voter’s ID when discussions about the national ID system started in Congress,” Jimenez said.
He said that there are still a thousand voter’s IDs that were not claimed at the poll body’s local offices.
Jimenez then advised the public to claim these IDs at the local offices of Comelec where they are registered.
