Palace says gov’t has “no other alternative” but to comply with SC order to submit drug war reports

But PNP says that while it “respects” SC order, it will “take” OSG’s “legal recommendation” on the matter

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Wednesday said the government has “no other alternative except to comply” with the Supreme Court order to submit reports on the administration’s drug war.

But Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said that while the PNP respected the SC order to submit the documents within 15 days upon notice, it would “”take the legal recommendation of the Solicitor General on the matter.”

It was Solicitor General Jose Calida who  petitioned against the submission of the reports before the SC, saying police operations and the safety of informants could be compromised.

Tuesday’s SC order to submit the documents stem from Calida’s motion for reconsideration of the High Court’s initial denial of his petition.

“We expect (the PNP and other concerned agencies) to comply (with the SC) and follow,” Guevarra, however, said, noting that the compliance could be “subject probably to security checks or requirements.”

“The SC has made a final order for the production of these particular documents,” he added.

Among the documents the SC has asked the government to produce and submit were a list of persons killed in legitimate police operations from July 1, 2016 to Nov. 30 2017; a list of deaths under investigation from July 1, 2016 to Nov. 30, 2017; the list of Chinese and Fil-Chinese drug lords who have been neutralized; a list of drugs involved whether shabu, cocaine, marijuana, opoids, etc.; comparative tables on index crimes; statistics of internal cleansing within the police force; a drug watchlist in the affected areas; a list of warrants and warrantless arrests in (high-value target) police operations; and a list of cases under investigation under the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service.
